Advanced Interactive Kinetic Energy Calculator

Theory & Formulas: Kinetic Energy

Kinetic Energy (KE) is the energy that an object possesses due to its motion. It is a scalar quantity, meaning it has magnitude but no direction.

  • The standard SI unit of kinetic energy is the Joule (J).
  • Kinetic energy depends on both the mass of the object and its speed (velocity squared).

The fundamental formula for kinetic energy is:

KE = ½ × m × v²

Where:

  • KE is Kinetic Energy in Joules (J)
  • m is Mass in kilograms (kg)
  • v is Velocity (or speed) in meters per second (m/s)

From this, we can derive formulas to calculate mass or velocity if the other quantities are known:

  • To find Mass (m): m = 2KE / v²
  • To find Velocity (v): v = √(2KE / m)

How to Use:

  1. Select Calculation: Choose whether you want to calculate Kinetic Energy (KE), Mass (m), or Velocity (v) from the dropdown menu.
  2. Enter Known Values: Input the two known values for the selected calculation in the fields that appear. Ensure you use the correct SI units (Joules, kg, m/s).
  3. Calculate: Click the "Calculate" button.
  4. View Result: The calculated value, along with the formula used, will be displayed.
  5. Copy & Log: Use the "Copy Result" button and review the Action Log for input details and calculation steps.
