How STAAR Algebra I Scoring Works in 2025
The STAAR program reports two kinds of scores:
- Raw Score – the number of questions you answered correctly (maximum = 59).
- Scale Score – an adjusted score that accounts for slight variations in test difficulty from year to year. Scale scores allow apples-to-apples comparisons across administrations.
Each scale-score band maps onto a performance category:
Performance Level | Scale-Score Range |
---|---|
Did Not Meet | < 3550 |
Approaches Grade Level | 3550 – 3999 |
Meets Grade Level | 4000 – 4344 |
Masters Grade Level | ≥ 4345 |
FAQs – STAAR Algebra I Score Calculator
❓ What is a “raw score” on STAAR?
The raw score is simply the number of questions you get right. If there are 59 questions and you answer 42 correctly, your raw score is 42.
❓ Why convert to a “scale score”?
Scale scores level out small differences in test difficulty between administrations. This lets TEA compare performance across years while keeping cut-scores (e.g., 4000 for Meets) fixed.
❓ What raw score do I need to Meet grade level in 2025?
You need a scale score of 4000. In Spring 2025, that corresponds to a raw score of 32.
❓ What raw score equals Masters?
A scale score of 4345 is required. In 2025, that’s a raw score of 41.
❓ Are these numbers official?
Yes – they come from TEA’s published Spring 2025 Raw-to-Scale Conversion Table for Algebra I.:contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}
❓ Does the calculator work for Summer or December retests?
No. Each administration gets its own conversion chart. Check TEA’s website for the correct table if you’re testing in a different window.
❓ Can the scale score affect graduation?
Absolutely. STAAR Algebra I is an EOC graduation requirement. You must at least Approach grade level (scale ≥ 3550) to count it toward your diploma.
❓ Where can I see my official results?
Log in at texasassessment.gov with your unique access code (found in Skyward or from your campus testing coordinator).
