Understanding Your IB Score in 2025
Calculating your final IB score involves more than just adding up your subject grades. The International Baccalaureate uses a comprehensive system that includes individual subject performance, core requirements like the Extended Essay (EE) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). Our calculators help you piece together this puzzle to get a clear picture of your potential results.
How are IB Grades Calculated?
Each of your six IB subjects is graded on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest). These grades are determined by your performance on both internal assessments (IAs), which are marked by your teachers and moderated by the IB, and external examinations. The total points from your six subjects can reach a maximum of 42.
- 7: Excellent
- 6: Very good
- 5: Good
- 4: Satisfactory
- 3: Mediocre
- 2: Poor
- 1: Very poor
The Crucial Role of TOK, the EE, and Bonus Points
The IB Diploma's core components can add up to 3 crucial bonus points to your total score. Your performance in Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay (EE) are graded on a scale from A to E. These two grades are combined in the TOK/EE matrix to award your bonus points.
For example, achieving an 'A' in TOK and a 'B' in the Extended Essay will grant you the full 3 bonus points. Conversely, failing either component (grade E) means you are not eligible to receive the IB Diploma. CAS is not graded but requires successful completion. Use our individual calculators to see how your component scores translate into a final subject grade, then use the matrix to estimate your bonus points.
IB Grade Boundaries for 2025
IB grade boundaries are the range of marks required to achieve a certain grade (1-7). These are not predetermined and can fluctuate each year based on student performance worldwide. The IB aims for consistency, so the boundaries for 2025 are expected to align closely with pre-pandemic standards (like 2019). Our calculators use the most recent and relevant data to provide the most accurate estimate possible.
