ATAR Score Calculator 2025
Feed in your scaled subject marks* (max 100) & unit weights to preview a probable 2025 ATAR. Think of it as a scenario-planner—not an official crystal ball.
*Use the scaled marks or study scores published by your state body (NESA / VCAA / QCAA etc.). Raw school marks ≠ scaled.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: This is a forecast tool based on 2024 scaling data. Actual ATAR calculations use current year scaling. Treat this as a scenario planner, not a crystal ball. Scaling shifts each cohort by ±5 marks for niche subjects.

💡 Pro Tips to Maximise Your ATAR
- Play to strengths: Select subjects you genuinely vibe with—engagement drives raw marks
- Chase rank, not raw %: Internal ranks scale with cohort strength
- Buffer with depth: A solid 5th/6th subject can rescue you if one exam implodes
- Don't game the "high-scaling" meta unless you can genuinely crush the coursework
Based on 2024 scaling data from UAC, VTAC, QTAC
Remember: Calculators inform strategy; they don't define your self-worth 💪
2 How this calculator actually works
- Raw marks in ➜ Your scaled subject marks + unit counts.
- Subject scaling already baked into the marks (use official tables).
- Aggregate build Calculator keeps the best 10 units (2 units Eng + 8 best units) ➜ aggregate / 500.
- Percentile mapping Uses a Monte-Carlo lookup (historic distribution) to convert aggregate to a probable national percentile and ATAR (0.00–99.95).
3 Worked example (NSW flavour)
- English Adv 88 (2 u)
- Math Adv 92, Math Ext 1 96 ➜ counts as 2 & 2 u
- Physics 90, Economics 88 (2 u each)
- Aggregate top 10 units = 88 + 96 + 92 + 90 + 88 = 454 / 500 → ~ top 2 % ➜ ATAR ≈ 98.2
4 Why each state tweaks the maths
Jurisdiction | Key twist |
---|---|
NSW (HSC) | Best 2 u English + best 8 u others → /500 aggregate. |
VIC (VCE) | Primary four × 10 % of 5th & 6th scores → /210. |
QLD (QCE) | Raw subject scores → SSS via QCAA, then QTAC ranks. |
WA/SA/TAS/NT | Minor scaling tweaks, national rank normalisation. |
5 Limitations & healthy scepticism
Calculator quirk | Why it’s okay |
---|---|
Uses last-year tables | Scaling shifts each cohort; niche subjects swing ±5 marks. |
Assumes uniform exam difficulty | A brutal 2025 Chem paper could re-weight Band 6 rarity. |
Ignores minuscule rounding | Final ATAR is published to two decimals (e.g. 94.10). |
6 Rapid-fire FAQ
Q | A |
---|---|
Do I need scaled or raw marks? | Scaled/study scores. Raw school marks will over-inflate prediction. |
What if I take 1-unit religion or extension subjects? | They count, but best 10 units still cap the aggregate. |
Is this official? | No. Treat it as scenario planning. |
How can I lift my ATAR quickly? | Target subjects where small mark boosts equal big percentile jumps. |
